When He Left
Hi mom, it’s me
The littlest boy
I went to war today
I don’t know if I’ll return
Pray for me
For someone to keep me safe
Don’t I look good in uniform?
My blue cap too.
Will my uniform get dirty?
Ripped and torn, with blood?
Will I be a hero?
Will I have the courage to save someone’s life?
Would I have the courage to lose my own?
I’m scared but I’m proud
To know I belong to you
I tried to look serious
And all grown up
But inside I’m scared
I love you
You must know you brought me up well
Now, goodbye don’t cry
For if you do I know I will
I love you
