The Eyes of Greed

We moved ahead, one thing on our mind,
Though I was sure we were unalike,
Although our goal remained the same,
I saw us as two, as seperate as can be,

A bright awakening, a glimpse of our desire,
Light danced around us, illuminating our path,
His eyes flashed violently, a sure sign of his intentions,
Ignorant, I progressed, supressing the doubt in my mind,

And there it was, so radiant, so pure,
It called out to us, tempting our desire,
The sound of longing, seduction, that of greed,
It yearned to be found, to be used, to consume,

A shadow crossed his face,
His veil was removed,
I looked into his eyes and saw it, my fears confirmed,
The selfish desire of greed,

It was then I realised what I had done, but too late,
As soon as it was over I wondered,
Was I any better? Did I deserve my fate?
Were we so different? So unalike?

Or was it unescapable? A trait among all people?
To not resist, but embrace our nature,
To be veiled, blind and ignorant, until it is too late,
When we are overcome by greed.
