In An Aquarium
We were sitting
Just sitting
By the hotel pool
With my mothers cousin
Just sitting
As if
Nothing
Was
Wrong
Or, it looked that way
To the people walking by
Looking through the glass walls
Like we were fish in an aquarium
We were, in a way
There was, after all, water
Also, there is no way
You'd know
If a fish had just confessed
To
Its
Mother
That it had been
Sexually
Abused
By its father
There is no way
You'd know
That they had just ran away from home
Leaving only a note that said
'Fred, we've gone to a hotel'
Just like
Nothing
Was
Wrong
There's no way
To know
What someone is feeling
When they're
In
An
Aquarium
