Concrete

Concrete wraps into her legs
Bound into prison
Stripping the soul away
To the palsy of acrid air
And we ask where it all has gone...

Life dissolves into dishes
Left on silver trays
Dropped to the dogs
Surrendered to demise
Yet our stomachs rumble...

The heart is bought
With the price of romance
Yet the transaction
Never occurs
And we pass without recognition.

We plan without action
Act without thinking
Think without feeling
Feel emotions only of
Plastic, paper, and silicon.

The concrete hardens...

Glass shines in our
Grand obelisks
To keep this beauty
Of joy and sorrow
Safely outside.

Love is the perfect prototype
We were to explore to perfection.
Now we hold the empty box it came in,
Focused on a package
Hoping simply to add another color.

Who will stand to set
The first crack to
This concrete world?
Who will take a hammer
To these glass buildings?

Are you the god of the machine?
Or will the machine be your god?
Every soul a light, a candle,
And still we look away to see
What has always been right here.

Move while you can.
Love while it remains,
Eat while you are still hungry...
Before the concrete and glass
Take you away, too.
