Kiss a Face That Isn’t There
I try to dance
In silent darkness
And finish lonely plans,
I try to kiss a face
That isn’t there,
I try to remember her hair.
Some things when they’re lost
Can be found or resumed,
But others vanish in the mist
Of human fragility and helplessness.
I don’t think I’ll be in love again,
Those flowers wilted in their vase,
Those delicate and tender emotions
Disappeared without a trace.
And I accept my history
And unhappy fate,
I’ll write everything down
For a better man to learn
And contemplate,
And by God’s grace,
Never repeat my mistakes.
