Because I Need The Poetry So Much

BECAUSE I NEED THE POETRY SO MUCH

Because I need the Poetry so much
I become parasite upon it,
Instead of its coming to me surprisingly
I force myself upon it-
What once was a gift
Becomes a theft-

This poem too
Written in the too early
Too still dark hours
Does not sing through me,
But now says itself reluctantly and sadly
As if it had no right to exist.
