Sophia’s Tale

It all began on a cold winter’s night
as another cloud blocked out the full moon's light.
The wind’s loud howling could have woken the dead,
it also kept me awake as I lay in my bed.

Thunder clapped and lightening flashed shadows around my room,
rain poured down bringing with it a fusty smell and a sense of gloom.
White and blue flashes blinded me as the wind howled out a groan,
my heart seemed to sink to deeper depths than I’d ever known.

As an almighty crack of lightening struck a tree near by
I heard the loud scream of a woman fade and die.
My window rattled as though someone wanted to come in,
I breathed easier when it stopped, but it started again.

I got up to draw the curtains and saw a shadowy face looking at me,
I drew them quickly, so he couldn’t see.
Soft taps on the window like that of a finger nail or claw
sent my heart to my stomach. Oh, did I lock the door?

The door was locked and bolted, so I breathed a sigh of relief,
everything went calm and quiet including my chattering teeth.
I told myself not to be stupid for being so easily frightened,
and as I opened the curtains it again thundered and lightened.

Somehow my window swung open and a creature looked into my eyes,
at first they appeared to be bright red and evil, but then I realised
that this was a handsome man who was holding me in his arms,
I had no control as he kissed me; I couldn’t repel his charms.

My mind could only see this lover, so handsome, strong and tall,
but when I awoke I found scratches covering my all.
The white sheets and pillow on my bed were covered in blood,
at the time I felt no pain at all, but then I certainly could.

I was in shock and didn’t know what or how this happened to me,
but this man or beast took advantage and caused me injury.
I managed to see my doctor and also had my wounds dressed,
and he sent me to the police surgeon to have a semen test.

The police interviewed me and carried out a full investigation,
the forensics gave an unhelpful and confused explanation,
finger prints, body-hair and semen were not of a human kind
and they had no DNA records to help prove their find.

They said they would check all available international DNA banks,
but this would take time and would probably draw blanks.
I was told to get on with my life the best way that I could
and they’d inform me if enquiries led to anything good.

Over the short time my wounds heeled, but my mind did not
I kept getting flashes of memory recall that scared me a lot.
I had to move house to try to get away from the bad memories,
this helped until I discovered my pregnancy.

Now I was really worried and wanted to know what was inside of me.
The doctor told me that it was just a normal pregnancy,
but that didn’t make sense I hadn’t made love for quite a long time,
but I was raped by that creature who took over my mind.

The doctor tried to put an end to my anxious worries and concerns
and sent me to the clinic to see what could be learned.
The maternity staff scanned my tummy and viewed my womb
and concluded that for a clear picture it was just too soon.

They told me to return in a week when the picture would be much clearer,
so I was left with the thoughts of a creature that couldn’t be nearer.
In my nightmares I repeatedly saw a half human and half bear like creature,
but it kept changing shape to one without recognisable feature.

Later that night I saw myself having the baby in the centre of a stone circle,
but then the stones changed to devil like creatures so ugly and horrible.
The baby was born and shown to me, and it wasn’t of a human kind;
the rapist told me I must mother it with love and secrecy in mind.

With his finger nail he cut my neck and from it the baby began drinking,
and when I awoke I saw in the mirror the same cut was shrinking.
From this moment I realised that something supernatural was happening to me,
so I went to see a priest who referred me to a doctor with a paranormal degree.

I told him what had happened and he looked through many of his books,
showing me different creatures until he found one with the rapist’s looks.
He looked astounded and whispered, “That cannot be; it’s just a myth.”
But then he continued to read the ancient text that made sense of this.

It described a 6,000 year old supernatural race that once roamed the land,
which were hunted down and destroyed, but the last of them made a stand.
Mercilessly they fought using all of their physical and mental energy,
and before they died the leader departed his body by ritual ceremony

His body was never found and it is said that he lives as dust in the air,
and every 1000 years a storm will cause his body to appear.
His quest is to re-establish his race, so they can roam the earth again
and he has to plant his seed before he dissolves in the falling rain.

At least I now know that he won’t be back again at least while I’m alive
my problem now is his seed and to make sure it doesn’t survive.
I thanked the man for his help and now planned to have an abortion.
My doctor arranged all this and I attended a pre-op examination.

The examination and scans now proved that there was no baby in my womb,
so in fact I wasn’t pregnant and there was no further cause for gloom.
I returned home contented knowing the creature’s baby wasn’t inside me,
but it didn’t stop my nightmares of how the baby’s birth would be.

Every night my dreams explained in detail what I must do with the baby,
I went back to the doctors and told him that I thought I was going crazy.
He examined me again and carried out a test, and told me nothing was there,
and I should now go and see another doctor, who would remove my despair.

I thought I was going insane; I even felt the baby kicking inside,
I knew it was using its powers by fooling the doctors to hide.
I didn’t know what to do, so I returned to the guy who helped me before,
I told him about everything and he agreed this was possible, for sure.

I also told him that I was scared not just for me, but for the human race
and would he help me to get rid of it, so that it didn’t leave a trace.
He said he was sorry and couldn’t get mixed up in anything unlawful
and I should seek help from my doctor or anyone medical.

People either think I’m mad or they just won’t help, whatever was I to do,
I had to think of something, but had I the strength to see this through?
After several weeks of thinking I decided to have the birth in a deep hot bath
I’d fill it with the hottest water and let the baby suffer my wrath.

Eventually I went into labour, so I got the scissors and filled the tub with water
I also placed knives in handy places in readiness for the creature’s slaughter.
My water broke, so I went upstairs for my bath, undressed and stepped in,
the baby was coming, but I had second thoughts of committing this sin.

My stomach pains were unbearable and slaughter had left my mind,
I had to get this birth over with and leave my hatred behind.
As it started to come away it’s growling brought me back to my senses
I grabbed a knife and stabbed between my legs while it was defenceless.

With the growling and splashing over, I lay back relieved that all was done;
in tears and exhausted I knew that I couldn’t have carried on.
When I’d regained some strength I had a feeling of contentment and I felt good,
but when I looked down nothing was there, no umbilical cord or blood.
