Early Works - Madeline
A rose
takes all winter to grow
and in summer
it will blossom and bloom
then I will pick it
and put it in you hair,
but that little rose
won’t look as lovely as you.
I don’t know what it was
that made me fall,
but Madeline when I met you
I seem to hear love call my name.
I tried to fight it, but what good did it do
because you cannot fight something
you cannot see, won’t you agree.
It started
with just a few words
and it ended in love conquering all.
I try to pretend,
but you’ve got me on a string
and there is nothing
I can do about it.

Author’s Note:
Madeline is a very old friend of over forty years. We dated a couple of times and in consequence, this soppy poem was born. She married a good friend of mine and they even came to my wedding. We still see each other from time to time.
