Under the Silver and Over the Gold
When philanthropist Herbert Traversoni travelled to Tuareg, Africa in 1935 he fell in love with Mpenda, and together they discovered a small patch of sero astrum, commanly known as star flowers. He wrote of an evening in the flowers with Mpenda:
'Cracked the moon in a single glance
And taught the stars their silver dance
Parcae, is it your damsons that fall with her hair upon my face?
And in your apocryphal winds that i found this place?
Flowers spy her!
Drowning in grace
Lay with me, under the silver and over the gold'
