Laura's Birthday
Laura's Birthday came and went
She didn't know, it's clear to see
No birthday cake
No party favors
No cards
No greetings from extending family
She just leaned her paws agains the gate
and wagged her tail excitedly
Her beautiful olive green hazel eyes
Looking up at me
Such a gentle creature
Full of love
With a heart as big as the sea
A little wonder
in her perfect chocolate tan coat
and her little nails
and eyelashes
and chocolate kiss nose
all go together perfectly
When all my friends are somewhere else
She's always happy about me
A little miracle somehow
spreading love and harmony
in ways the heart can feel
though many fail to see
Laura's birthday came and went
and she didn't know, it's clear to see
But she's a wonderful little friend
A miracle to me
A reminder of care and humility
and of God the creator, who we can feel
through his gifts great and small
some unnoticed
Reminders of his love and generosity
