I was afraid of the dark...
I was afraid of the Dark
When I was young
As if in its bosom
Waited some Satan from Meung.
It gave me goosebumps
Bristling hair on the neck
Dark was too dangerous a cliff, I thought
There my neck and soul would break!
Was it an Effrit?
Or some Genie?
Stroking its malignant beard in the dark
Whose name was being chanted by the cricket!
I was afraid of the Dark
But I grew bolder
Risking my Fear’s stability
For a walk in Life’s Park!
I am still afraid of the Dark
It is wedded to life itself
But I choose to walk on …and on
Though it’s short-lived –My courage’s spark!
