Bestest Bet
If i could identify what makes me happy
I am wondering If identifying it
would make me happy?
If happiness is love or money
would mere identification
result in bliss?
No, I would then have
to identify what steps to take
to obtain love's best.
But steps sounds like something I would plan
and planning sounds artificial
and can love come from artifice
or worse manipulation?
Can I manipulate my loved one
into loving me and live happily ever after?
Or should I leave love to random chance
and hope for the best
when so much is at stake?
Should I wait passively
for love to find me?
All of this not so easy.
What of money?
I could plan riches
by training, earning or cheating
the Wall Street Way,
but that obviously can go awry
or even if not
shall I cling to the dollar almighty
and proclaim happiness?
If money did this
then the rich
would be happiest of all;
and clearly they are not.
So what to do here:
talk about second best?
Well, if life is not going to make me happy
it is either I misunderstand what is involved
or I should take the money and the random love;
marrying someone who
is at best a risk
and
50% likely to bring me not happiness
but unhappiness and divorce.
Am I then to cuddle my dollar bills and
unhappy misery;
curse my life as unlucky
or conclude
probably
that my bestest bet
is that
happiness
does not lie
out there
rather
it lies
within
me;
and best to
begin my search there;
asking then
who is the happiest me
I can respect?
