Summer Night
Summer night,
Do you remember
When the stars
Kissed the moon
Over the Caribbean Sea,
Moments before
We twirled and spun
On checkered shores
Improvising all the moves?
Can you see
How the years
Have worn our feet
And stretched
Our facial skins,
Making memories restless
Where we had been?
Can you hear
The waves crashing
Against the rocks
As we adjust these hearing aids
And the sounds
Of these bell-bottoms fading?
Can you feel
Love-juice flowing
From withered spikes,
Deflected by time?
Can you smell
A fresh morning,
poured from a cup,
Mixed with hope of noon?
Can you taste
The future
With so many years gone by
And the sacraments
At heaven's door?
