She died in April
She died in April
Struck by a car
As all around the snows lay melting
And the first blooms came to life
I hurried home
To grieve and console
And there she lay
Still and Warm in the noonday sun
My hand resting gently upon her
As the world stood still
We counted over thirty names
That hovered
As the earth held her close
And
In the wake of her passing
Each Spread outward into our hearts
To check that she was still alive
We are each too stubborn to say goodbye
So instead
We give a part of ourselves
A hope, a song, a long embrace
For our parallel journey
She died in April
Struck by a car
Our beloved friend
In full view of the universe
