Poverty Me
In a ‘cheap' apartment
With high utilities and
A great sense of aaah;
Driving a car with dings
And looking cool in resale
Clothing selected by a 'good'
Eye; Limited antenna
television access.
Poverty me with no money for
Travel or play, knowing I have
Seen all of the world that I will
Ever see: Poverty me.
Forced retirement with a tiny
Pension laced with a breakdown
Of the senses: Good, common, non -
All my ‘backup' rushed ahead
And now there's nothing to invest,
No safety net, nothing but a Social
In-Security check, a part time job
(That I Am blessed with)
And a prayer.
Don't poverty me.
