Looking For A Sign That Found Me
I stopped and stared down at my feet
At a flower growing through the thick concrete
It seemed it was meant for me to see
Some sign meant for me to keep
So I reached down and picked it there
In a place so cement bare
I knew it wouldn't mind
It was meant for me to find
But, now I do all that I can
For any moment it could wilt in my hand
Hold it too softly, it flys
Hold it too tightly, it dies
Yes, you know, this flower's your love
It's all I want to take care of
I prayed to find a sign to see
And it seemed the sign had instead found me
Because what could grow from a concrete slab?
Nothing I know of would take a stab
But now what's next, what do I do?
All my life has been a road to you
And I'm afraid, oh so much
I give it the most fragile touch
I shudder at the pain this could bring
This beautiful, angelic thing
I'll love you just as hard as I prayed
Breathe you in, hide that I'm afraid
Thank God for life's pain and rejections
They're the reason I notice your little perfections
Thank God I'd been hurt, bent down so far
Or I'd never realize how amazing you are
And thank God there's destiny after defeat
Thank God miracles grow through concrete
