Box
by Ted L Glines
working working
no time to play
postpone your dreams
for another day
eternity waits
an endless stage
for your childish glee
or dreams of rage
children know
magickal places
dragons and elves
grins on their faces
but growing up
is serious stuff
put your childhood away
learn how to bluff
living by logic
from man-made books
kills your soul
under pious looks
an empty life
is something built
one day at a time
from fears and guilt
growing misuses
drown childhood gladness
replaced with abuses
of adult sadness
rushing your life
schedules and clocks
all of it ends
in a fancy box
going to heaven
or that place of screams
such an awful waste
for the soul with no dreams
