Africa The Dignity Deferred
I am Africa
I am the mother
I am Africa
A father to mothers
I am Africa
An ancestor to fathers
I gave life
I gave birth to all these notions
With motions
I begot all these valleys
Mountains I natured
And fountains I matured
But wars acted
In no time my life was rejected
The spilling of blood was perfected
And thus today I am neglected
Today they predilected
I am Africa
Never-the-less I survived slavery
And tried to instill peace
But the strong thunders of poverty came
And they left me into pieces
To hollow rocks I whispered
And the murmuring trees dispersed
Dancing with the deasese, hate!
That made me lose my coasts
And post to post I felt all costs
I am Africa
My poetic buff is still boilling
Rolling and gliding with blood and tears
Till today I am fighting
Yes I am contesting to redeem myself
Beyond the dignity
That was degraded by earthy spheres
Each day and each night
And for each life taken
I bow and lose my love
And my dignity is deferred
