A Forest
Cruising through Middlesbrough
mid December.
Passing the ICI chemical factory
which indiscriminately
pours untreated effluent
into the river
which gives it a home.
It's brightly lit
and looks
for all the world
like a forest
of ornate, illuminate
christmas trees.
Lining, defining
the banks
of the Tees.
The irony kills me.
