A Day Of A Five Year Old
“Mamma, I have homework to do,
How can I manage without you? ”
She calls out to me every evening in despair
My little daughter of five, pretty and fair
She climbs up onto my knees slowly and gently
To get there she plots and schemes so intelligently
She thinks her little plans I do not know
With difficulty I keep a straight face so that it doesn’t show
She is most comfortable doing her homework perched on my lap
For her homework I have to put on my thinking cap
Diligently she finishes her work stifling a yawn
The little angel was up and about since dawn
Every morning she looks forward for a ride in the school bus
About her uniform and shoes she makes a big fuss
She’s particular that it’s clean and always neatly pressed
I’m on my toes to see that she is not depressed
Homework all done, dressed and ready
She says goodbye to her cuddly teddy
For the school bus to arrive she waits in anticipation
In the bus there are her friends; I see her face brighten
Thus begins another day in the life of my five year old angel
So lively, energetic, happy and zestful
I’ll miss all this action when you are grownup
Fond memories will return when with wrinkled hands I sip from my teacup.
