Depression
They give you a pill for your depression
They say, 'It will soon go away'
They tell you it's a defect in your expression
It comes and goes like passing days
They tell you not to think in colour
'Try monochrome, or shades of grey'
They tell you not dream or think too deep
Or imagine living on a better stage
They give you a word for your depression
'feeling low or feeling blue'
They give you a place for your depression
A place they send the 'depressed to'
Of no direction, hope or purpose,
A gallery of muted faces
Who sit in silence devoid of violence
Watching the chairs and empty spaces
They send you to hell with your depression
Take your ID at the door
Relieve you of all your possessions
Leave you howling on the floor
I've seen them caged in adult cages
Past the stage of want and care
They leave them swaddled up like babies
And forget that they are even there
There is a name for depression
It's called 'extinction' learn it fast
The sand is falling quickly through,
Let's leave before the hour is past!
