Unravel Each Other
You make a crisp autumn day feel like a warm summer month
and I haven't even known you long enough
to know the colour of your eyes
or if your smile settles when you sleep.
But I do know this.
I know that love is not in heart beats
or in gold-plated rings
or in the electricity between our skin.
Love is in the mind.
It is in the comfort of a locked glance.
It is at the end of a dwindled conversation
when both interlocutors feel at ease
knowing their words are safe
and without judgement.
Just trust me.
I make love look as simple
as a coin being spun on a table.
And my hands have touched so many hearts
that my fingerprints have lost their novelty.
Romance has become nothing more than a body lying next to me.
There is a thin layer of glass between me and the love in my life
And I always see more of my reflection
than I ever see through to the other side.
I am not selfish
I am scared.
And I have this burning
aching
soul bearing
feeling
that you could rid me of my fear.
I am six years deep
into the understanding of love.
Speak a few sincere words
and I will know if you're the one.
That is simply how I am.
I can sense love from miles away
just as the animal smells the fear in its prey.
Target locked
and I've already landed on your heart.
New stories to share.
New layers of ourselves to shed
because we were too shameful to show them to others.
There's excitement, beauty, fear and sadness in this.
And if we can take all of those things
Pile them up on our shoulders and let them weigh us down
onto each other
onto this bed.
I am sure we'd be more than willing
to give this love
a chance.
