The Forgotten Glory
When man's adversity has come astride,
The saddle of his latter unsung days,
For while the erstwhile ego still does pride,
Upon the glint of half-remembered frays;
But glory now has dimmed, a lifeless sheen,
Among minstrel's songs whose notes have soured,
In rhymes that Time erased, now forgotten,
Except by souls whose lament now they poured;
The vagaries of time spared not their toll,
Upon the hero's strength and innate will,
While once loud trumpets called and drums did roll,
Same notes bewail his coming down the hill;
.......When Fate bestows its crown in rhyme and verse,
.......The same it wails as dirges for the hearse.
