The House on the Hill
The house on the hill is standing still
though the paint has cracked and flaked.
The slates have withstood the test of time,
though discoloured and sun baked.
Three windows are carrying subsidence cracks,
and the curtains have had their day.
The guttering is hanging loose against the roof
and the drainpipe has come away.
The wooden porch is showing it’s age,
and the sash windows appear seized.
Damp has taken the north and west sides,
and left the other sides to the breeze.
I am surprised that it is still here
after the turmoil it has faced.
Supernatural happenings and occurrences
have plagued this once charming place.
