The Present Tense
Across the street time stands still
The past shines in quiet eternity
Light makes its way down the ancient path
Every moment caught
Every gesture
Every smile
Resolution inverted
Dawn rises from night
Stare at old photos with tears
There we were together as children playing
Resolved in gentle child minds
Gentle with the spirit of the wind
You went first
Now I am left to deal with the past
Letters on a gravestone
How I miss you
Sorrow the universal bond of time
Brazen tomorrow is in every decision
We make gardens or beds of thorns
Take the hand of the past like a wise ghost
Premonitions! Do you believe in them?
Cast your fate into the stars
No – life is the accumulation of choices
Kindness in the eyes that have cried
Self pity parades as a victim
Evasive interludes where stale faces groan
Life marches relentless
Time seeks its final chime
Excuses burn in the cleansing mystic fire
Arcades of mystery skip into the sky
These free moments like blue birds in summer
Sing your song into the winds of freedom
Take those chances at real joy
Tell her you love her when you feel it
Courage happens daily
Know who your friends are
Let the camera catch you real and true
Love connects yesterday today and forever
Choices glide in dimensions of light
Flashing in circles of sweet family
Life reveals the talent of wonder
Awe of connections that bring color
Those meant to be there
She steps thru the doorway
Such lovely grace and poise
Take heed that such a gift is cherished
All this in the present tense
