Only a Flicker
Singly stripped from off the bark
of life our days may not return,
only a flicker in the dark
swift sparkles, - matchless pages turn.
Branches leaved now bare and stark,
scarecrow stand as seasons burn
concentric rings which leave their mark
beneath the bark mid forest fern.
