Poem for Jack
A tall imposing stranger
I met a few years back,
Became my Pa', through marriage,
John Cox, (to me just Jack.)
Like me he doesn't say much,
We both prefer to read;
We never talk for talking's sake,
There doesn't seem the need.
An air-force man in days gone by,
One of the boys in blue;
As smart as any gent', with
Spit and polish on his shoe.
For fun he'd go a' fishin'
Out on the salty sea;
Out in the Bristol channel
Just as happy as could be.
He doesn't travel much now
'Cause of trouble with his ticker;
But once upon a time he roamed
As much as Alan Wicker.
Of trials and tribulations
Jack Cox has had his share;
But sorted every problem
From his good old Parker chair.
The man's as wise as Solomon,
And crafty as a fox;
I wish I had a parker chair,
In black, just like Jack Cox.
