Aurobindo-11-Savitri-Book -1
An appreciation on Savitri-
Book I The Book of Beginnings-
canto-4-The Secret Knowledge
Words within inverted commas are Aurobindo's
'This is the knot that ties together the stars'
Unlike the human stars that tie or untie as birth-right
'His silence is his signature to her deeds'
'She through his witness sight and motion of might
Unrolls the material of her cosmic Act'
'He is carried by her from Night to deathless Light.
This grand surrender is his free-will's gift
His pure transcendent force submits to hers.'
'Her seeming regent, yet her fancy's toy
'The Spirit, the innumerable One,
He has left behind his lone eternity,
He is an endless birth in endless Time,
Her finite's multitude in an infinite Space.'
' The master of existence lurks in us
And plays at hide-and-seek with his own Force;
In Nature's instrument loiters secret God.'
'The Absolute, the Perfect, the Alone'..
Thus in us of hers at her will of His wish
He thinks and plays in beings as in their guise
And our forgetfulness is of that, He is the Maker
'A mutual debt binds man to the Supreme'
'We are sons of God and must be even as he:
His human portion, we must grow divine.
Our life is a paradox with God for key.'
'But none learns whither through the unknown he sails
Or what secret mission the great Mother gave.'
'There is a plan in the Mother's deep world-whim,
A purpose in her vast and random game.'
'To evoke a Person in the impersonal Void, '
'And raise a lost Power from its python sleep'...
............My consciousness this moment,
O'Guru, I'm in awe....in invincible heights
Ineffable Thee embellishing poetic creation
My inquisitive apprehension, erring Thee may opine
May thereso, let Savitri in my self arise
Aroused thereso be knowledge and fortune
