Love Unspoken
yesterday
a tear caught
the sun [whole]
[and] rolled down
your cheek [tumbling]
as we drove
[at speed] along
the M31
transfixed in that
moment [etched]
now in my mind
[immortalised]
in my heart
sealed [memory]
that tenderest of
trysts [our secret]
as you bared your
deepest groanings
[longing]
mourning
your greatest loss
this side of heaven
as I wiped [with fingertips]
wetness [touched]
from your face
I could be no
more nearer you
beside you [offering]
devout friendship
you are my friend
caught in that moment
what strangeness
of having little else
to give other than be
by your side [always]
no wise words to speak
no comfort to unworded
dissolution
but to keep a steady hand
on the wheel and drive
toward the rest of our lives
the music blaring and
our chests heaving
[why is it that when
your friend's heart breaks
your heart breaks along? ]
horizon receding, re-emerging
until i pull the handbrake
in front of your house [and stop]
