My Torment
MY torment none hath ever seen
DATE OF crying gloomy skies
Me whose mind is not so KEEN
thought much of their cold DESPISE.
to scamper away into the bush
my foot, there plunged a broken glass
deep pierced I, the unseen rash
step still I to deeper fast
Soaking wet I from the rain
Thoughts merely of thine purer vain
Err of mine; thought none had felt
Precious remedy to weakened health
Undue bleed the cut in burst
Pretty cold the waters drips
Kill the warmth of bloody curse
Elicit cold and warmth in shifts
Pound the wondrous turtle shell
Fierce they rip thy human flesh
Irk to thine souls ne'er tell
Gape in drip of man-blood, fresh
Hath I brought in nearly death
To mine o'er allurement to thee
in my desire I lost my breath
Naught gold yet anguish I'd to see.
