The Unfortunate Soul
Some poor unfortunate soul
towards the end of the day
has made it to my doorstep.
And who am I to say,
that but for a change of circumstance
that soul might have been me.
Do I shut the door and turn my back
or offer what I can?
Now some would say in these dangerous times
that's the better plan.
But I, who was taught while growing up
that to fear is a coward's way
offer this soul a helping hand
and pray that if some day
I should be the unfortunate soul
to face a time of woe
that they will harbor friendship to
the one with no place to go.
