The Time We Have
Sometimes when I awaken at night
I reach to feel if you're there.
I've gotten so used to your closeness,
the closeness that we share.
I glance at the clock to see the time
and the numbers that I view
remind me of how much time I have
to share my bed with you.
I try not to think of a time that will come
when one of us will be in bed alone.
For then if it's me and I reach for you,
I'll be there on my own.
And if I leave before you do
I want you to remember
all of the best we two have had
each January through December.
