The Leaf
All withered and dry upon the ground
I see many others fluttering down.
And now that I've reached the end of my days
there's a different scene that's all around.
I've served my purpose and brought delight
to all who looked upon my sight
and to all who gave me praise.
Now I welcome the darkening night.
The winter is approaching. Cold is here.
But I'm not finished. Shed no tear.
I will be swept away with the wind
only to return next year.
And when you gaze upon my shape
after the winter's snowy escape,
look as I come to life again
and provide the grass with a leafy cape.
For nothing in life ever goes away
without returning on another day.
So when you become withered and dry like me,
You'll sleep for a while then find your way
back.
