Make a Vow
Can you remember who you were
when you knew but this?
How it was to find yourself
deep in heavenly bliss?
And if you can't why the tears?
The weeping does no good.
All it does is prolong the quest,
prolong the years of yearning
to return to your childhood.
For as a child your mind
is so unfettered and free.
The possibility is stronger
that allows you to see
the time that you felt your heart
filled with love and desire
from a love so wondrous you know somehow
that it lives again in the now.
And so you make a vow.
To find it again through
word and song
knowing full well the probability
of how life moves along.
You recognize the connection.
It astounds and brings you back
and you remember who you were,
but now you feel the lack.
For nothing can ever compare
to the feel of his arms
that held you close and
embraced your charms.
You remember through reading
his words of praise
and all of the too many shortened days.
Can I remember who I was?
I answer most confidently
'I must. I must for I can't forget
what it is I wish to see.'
