Forgive Me
Before your door I said a prayer,
the briefest prayer that you'd be there.
I had not seen you for so long.
Maybe this approach to you was wrong.
Should I have called before I came
or take a chance and hide my shame?
I did not mean to hurt you so.
But forgiveness always comes too slow.
And so I must take the very first step
and pray my apology you'll accept.
For we humans aren't perfect on any day.
But maybe you can find a way
to forgive me and my foolish pride.
And maybe you can see my side.
So I knock with trepidation in my heart
and when I see you my eyes do smart.
And you much bigger a soul than I
take me in your arms and let me cry.
