Pope John Paul II (A Biography Poem Sequence-1)
The Pope’s Childhood Days:
His home was near to Peter’s square;
The Church had cast its spiritual air
That made Karol, a pope at last,
And rather young and very fast!
His pious parents reared him well;
Prayers were done as if by bell;
As altar-boy in his parish,
His childhood days, he did cherish.
The passion plays of Calvary,
Brought him to Christ, Mother Mary;
His chief weapon, the rosary
Helped war against Satan wary.
His childhood days were prayerful;
The chapel was so wonderful;
Karol was on his knees for long,
Meditating on things gone wrong.
Alone, he prayed with outstretched hands,
With face down on the stone-floor sands;
Engrossed in prayer, he had spent
Long hours with God, with body bent!
The Nazi-boot noise hurt him much;
He slept upon the floor, not couch;
With body spread like perfect cross,
Praying in silence, without pause.
The screaming sirens rent the air;
The noise of explosions was there;
Karol unperturbed walked his way
Across the bridge to Church, to pray!
He had submitted to God’s will;
A sense of calm just kept him still;
While hell was breaking loose around,
Young Karol stood fearless and sound.
He held some persons in esteem;
The modern science was not a dream;
Yet, Karol was aflame with God,
And speaking rather, looking odd.
