Bible in Poetry: Gospel of St. Peter 1 (Chapter 2)
As you embrace the living Stone that’s Him-
Men-rejected, God-chosen and precious,
You too are being made a house,
Of holy priesthood, spiritual,
To offer sacrifices liked by God,
The Father, through His Son, Jesus,
For, Scripture says, ‘I urge you therefore, my dear friends,
As strangers, aliens in this world,
To stay away from sin’s desires,
That war against your soul on earth;
Among the pagans, live good lives,
So that, although, they accuse you,
But seeing your good deeds of life,
They glorify God when He comes! ’ He entrusted to Him, the Judge,
Instead, who judges most fairly,
He bore our sins on His body,
While nailed upon the wooden tree,
So that we might die for our sins,
And live for righteousness always,
For by His wounds, you were all healed,
And you were like sheep gone astray,
But now returned to Good Shepherd-
One overseer of all your souls! ’
