Poppy's Hold
The suns raps like burning lava on the skin
As the peau embraces life in its scorching thin
Where the bactrian camels roam in absolute glee
Where fields of poppy smile in their domes of free
Not a mercenary but a proud soldier within
As the terrain desecrates the life from within
As a bomb explodes taking away the carrier's life
Hoards of innocence at mercy in the unfolding strife
I have a picture of her in my wallet's space
My guarding savior from the bullet's brace
As life's timber fall like the Amazons in Brazil
To the delighted faces of a few in the cheapest of thrills
She is a nurse in making in the badlands of Lakota
An Indian princess in the pieces of Dakota
A lass with a simple outlook and kind eyes
As I long for her kiss in these badlands as time rarely flies
I can picture her stitching the poor man's guilt
I can picture her stitching our summer picnic quilt
I can picture her with her apron hovering in the breeze
As she prepares our ambrosia with meticulous ease
She grew up in the reservation my dear Pocahontas
As the Mr Roffe in me chased after a mystical lass
As she nursed the souls dainty, fragile and weak
To the arms of armor with a miraculous tweak
Now I miss her like Romeo and Juliet
Star crossed lovers in these unforgiving outlets
Exits loom not just for the wounds but for an eternal freeze
A meeting with God in the burning clay of the street
Then in a flash the clash of gunfire begins
As I kiss her paper lips for her sheltering blessings
As the canvas lights up with bullet holes and the sanguine scatter
I am one of the few survivors in life's horrific shatter
I kiss her lips once more in my ambiguous content
Hoping for a chance to hold her in my arms with intent
To go down on my knees to my guardian princess
For an eternity of bliss in absolute excess
As I shed a tear to my fallen friends
Like a river that hurriedly shatters to a rock at a bend
The course of life interrupted by an unforgiving bullet
As the heart stopped forever with a rap of a metallic pellet
Then as time went by I became an abject body
With unshaven cheeks and an all round appearance shoddy
Then in a flash destiny beckoned in the form of a registered letter
I was needed in the heartland.........time's intervening matter
As the metallic bird hits the convivial tarmac
I rushed down to the arms of my angel lilac
With a flowing lavender sun dress buoyant in the wind
The ascent of my life to the thick from the thin
The past vanishing like the setting sun, now a future to uphold
Winds of change blowing through the badlands, as the weeping folds
Now she is in front of me my sweet little doe
For me get down on one knee for an eternity to spore
Love beckons you in the form of letters and epistles
Love tugs your heart with her epicenter's melodic whistles
Love nudges you in the presence of your affable queen
For a metamorphosis sprinkled with love's eternal sheen
