Forever And Ever More
I was walking by a field one day
early in the month of May.
The buds were in rich splendour
getting ready with their finery.
Something made me pause
and look around at what was there,
it was then I spied
a maiden with the fairest hair.
She was sitting by a small stream
looking at her reflection
in the clear water there.
Each ripple represented a frown
she wore on her forehead
as she waited for her lover
to return from a foreign shore.
She sat so silent and still
under the warming sunlight.
I wondered if I should speak
and break the silence of her concentration,
but though I had better not
and kept on walking by.
Though I never saw her, again,
I often wonder now,
did her lover come back
from that foreign shore?
Did they live happily together
in love forever more?
Personally, I’d like to think
it was like a fairy tale
and that they lived happily together
forever and ever more.
