Fireflies
Those little twinkling lights
They hide from progess' breath
Escape from smog and heights
In forests refuge set.
A rarity to sight
This vanishing specie
Before, when it was night
They were a joy to see.
In childhood I was blessed
To see them dance through trees
With lights and twinkles dressed
Like happy little fairies.
Will future children know
Nature's feast for the eyes?
Or sadly will these grow
Extinct as fading fireflies?
